Rainbow Rain Cloud

Springtime brings lots of rain showers and sunny days- and what do you get when they come together? A beautiful rainbow! This art project is not only a pretty piece of art, but also a fun creative way to demonstrate the science of weather patterns with your little ones.

Supplies Needed:

  • Liquid Glue

  • Cotton Balls

  • Water / Water cup

  • Paintbrush

  • Different Colored Non-Toxic Water Soluble Paints

  • Watercolor Paper or Poster Paper

  • Yarn or String

  • Scissors

Prep for the Adults:

Mix together some blue droplets of water soluble paint into the water.

This will be our “rain”!

Cut a medium-length piece of yarn. Mine is yellow, because this will be our “sunshine”!

Step-by-Step:

Gather all the needed supplies for your little one! Cotton balls, glue, a paintbrush, your “rain” and “sunshine”, and some different colored paints.

Start by glueing cotton balls onto your paper.

Here is our cloud!

Now we have to make our cloud a rain cloud! Use the blue water paint to paint your cloud.

Tada! Now our cloud looks like it’s about to rain!

Here comes the rain! Drop different colors of paint next to each other underneath the cloud.

Drop,

drop,

drop!

Now here comes the sun to dry up all the rain! (Place the string on top of the paint blobs…)

And pull down!

The rain and sun make a rainbow! How fun!
